NY Post called it a “sweet taxpayer-funded wedding gift.” However, an Assembly insider said the funding was later pulled from the agenda. The report also said discussions included using state troopers for protection.

The report framed the debate as politically risky because Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are wealthy celebrities. One insider reportedly said the proposal was “sure to be politically controversial.” Meanwhile, the outlet said the couple’s wedding would take place in the Big Apple on July 3. A representative for Gov. Kathy Hochul denied any specific wedding earmark. The spokesperson said there would be “no money specifically earmarked” for the couple’s nuptials. However, the state budget would include $20 million for FIFA World Cup and America’s 250th anniversary events.
