The target of influencer Gabriela “Gabbie” Gonzalez‘s alleged murder-for-hire plot, her ex Jack Avery, is speaking out.

In a statement posted Thursday, May 21, the former Why Don’t We singer reflected on years of “intense public scrutiny, false accusations, and deeply painful attacks” against him and his family leading up to the arrests, of which he previously “chose to remain silent out of respect for the legal process and, most importantly, for my daughter.”

Avery, 26, had been in a tense custody battle with Gonzalez over their 7-year-old daughter, Lavender, whom the singer says is “safe, healthy, and deeply loved,” with his focus set on being the “best father I can be.”

The singer added that he has sole custody of their daughter, and that he looks “forward to continuing to build a peaceful and stable life for her.”

He ended the statement thanking “everyone who has supported me and withheld judgment while the truth unfolded” and added, “Always seek the truth.”

The statement was accompanied by a black-and-white photo of Avery holding Lavender, taken from behind.

Gonzalez, 24, and her 59-year-old father, Francisco Gonzalez, are facing criminal charges for their alleged role in the plot, with investigators citing a witness who stated the social media personality “repeatedly said she wanted Jack Avery dead and discussed hiring a hitman,” according to a probable cause arrest warrant and affidavit.

Gabriela Gonzalez was booked into a Los Angeles County jail on May 18, where she is currently being held on $2 million bail, according to inmate records reviewed by USA TODAY.

The affidavit also alleges that Francisco Gonzalez had previously enlisted a private investigator to surveil the musician and gather evidence of him “acting in a way that could be used against him in the custody dispute.”

The witness, per the affidavit, stated that Gabbie Gonzalez paid her alleged co-conspirator, Kai Cordrey, approximately $10,000 in April 2021 to carry out the efforts, which they planned to stage as a car accident. Investigators were able to confirm the transaction, which Cordrey transferred to Bitcoin, along with an additional $4,000 bank transfer in June 2021, per the affidavit. Cordrey would go on to confirm to investigators the payments as well as communications with Francisco Gonzalez.
